Activities as a volunteer
The activities begin at 5 a.m. It is required that as a volunteer you collaborate with the household staff in the tasks of the house, among them is to collect the eggs in the henhouse and milk the goats for breakfast milk, as well as help to order and clean the rooms, at 6:30 a.m breakfast is served, and at 7 a.m. the classes begin within the same Hogar where the headquarters of an Educational Center are also located.
In the afternoons when leaving school, the children return home for lunch and homework. In addition to the children of the home, there is also the visit of 50 children from the community who come to receive tutoring and school reinforcement.
Different activities such as games, repair or construction projects are carried out and there is also a natural river where you can go swimming and play water games.
As dance lovers, we want to collaborate with this home, teaching a little dance to the girls, you do not need to be a teacher or a dancing expert. We have prepared a program with very simple dances, because most of the children have not received dance training before.
The dance volunteer program will take place 3 days a week in the evenings, in collaboration with the other activities and support classes. We will have to adapt to the school hours and schedules of the orphanage, in addition to national holidays, so the schedules could change, so you are required to be flexible.
If in addition to dancing, you have other skills that you want to share with the children, such as teaching English, crafts, music, circus, or anything else that might be useful, do not hesitate to tell us, all help is welcome, and the Home and about all the children and adolescents will thank you.
Excursions in your free time
You are not expected to work as a volunteer on weekends, so you can take advantage of your free days to get to know this wonderful place and its surroundings a little bit. In the Hogar they will inform you of where our local agency is located so that you can make excursions in Guatemala.

- Why do I have to pay to volunteer?
You are not actually paying to volunteer. Your program fees are use to pay for your accommodation, maintenance and travel.
Places like this orphanage that receive volunteers to help with extra activities, could not afford to pay anyone to do it, nor would they have to pay for your food and accomodation. That is why the contribution of the people who come to help as volunteers is so important.
Although the price you pay is slightly above what your food and lodging cost, it is an extra financial contribution that this association will use to pay for expenses such as electricity, water, medicines, school supplies …
- Why is there a minimum stay?
The minimum stay for this program is 2 weeks. We believe that working with children, it takes a few days for them to adapt to you. If you’re only going to go a couple of days, they lose interest. We believe that two weeks is the minimum for the experience to be satisfactory for both parties.
- Can I arrive before, or stay longer?
Of course, the programs start every Monday, but we can adapt your trip to the dates you need. If you want to arrive a few days before, you just have to tell us and we will organize your accommodation for the day of your arrival. Also, if when you finish your period as a volunteer you decide to stay longer it is also possible.
- Can I help out in something else n the orphanage?
Of course, if you want to go every day to help the orphanage, they will be happy to receive your help. Either to collaborate in the cleaning or in the preparation of the meals, or in helping in reforms that the facilities need. But if, for example, you speak English, or you know how to sing, or whatever you think you think may be beneficial for girls, you can always propose it to the people in charge of the center, and coordinate schedules with them.
- What extra expenses will I have?
You will need to present a criminal backround check to be able to work as a volunteer.
Your airline tickets, transportation from your accommodation to the program, any excursion you want to make in your free time, weekend meals and your personal expenses.

No minimum group is required.
Volunteer program start every Monday. It is possible to adjust the accommodation dates as desired.
For this program a minimum stay of 2 weeks is required, and a maximum stay of 3 months.

REQUIREMENTS TO VOLUNTEER
Minimum age 18 years.
Submit a criminal record check.
A basic level of Spansih. Volunteers interested in taking Spanish lessons can ask for more information about it.
Valid passport for a minimum of 6 months and round trip tickets.
If you do not have a Spanish passport, please consult the Guateamala embassy.
No vaccination is required to enter Guatemala. However, it is recommended, especially to people who go to remote places, to be vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus and Yellow Fever. To avoid Malaria and other diseases transmitted by mosquito bites (Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya) it is recommended not to neglect the use of repellents.

In Antigua the climate is warm and dry. In summer it usually rains more, while in winters it is dry. It has an average annual temperature of 18 degrees. It is recommended to look at the weather forecast before traveling.
The national currency is the Quetzal, although it is possible to pay in Dollars almost anywhere.
In some places they will let you pay in euros, but the exchange rate is always unfavorable for us.
The official language is Spanish.
The voltage is 120 V. The plugs and sockets are of the type A, B, G and I. Check our post about electricity
The city of Cobán is quite safe and quiet, and tourists can walk without worry. So, as in any other place, it is recommended to keep your belongings in a safe place and not leave them unattended.
If you plan to travel to other parts of the country, find out beforehand. The Guatemalan authorities through their tourist assistance program (PROATUR) and the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) can provide information on the security conditions in the areas they wish to visit, as well as provide them with a custody service if they travel in groups.
It is normal to leave a tip, although usually not more than 10%.

You have to make a 150€ payment and we will book you a place in the trip during the next 15 days (in case this period is not incompatible with the remaining time until the trip)

3. In the bank transfer, indicate your name, surname and the booking code.
4. Once we receive the payment, we’ll send you an email with the booking confirmation.
When the group is formed with the minimum of travelers we’ll contact you to make the payment for 50% of the total of the trip. (The 150€ from the booking will be deducted from the amount corresponding to 50%). At this point, if required by the destination, we’ll ask you to send a copy of your passport.
5. 15 days prior to departure we’ll send the travel documentation, itinerary, air tickets in case we have issued them, travel contract and travel insurance.
6. Let’s travel!
The trip price does not include flights.
We can arrange the air tickets for you, and have to be paid in full before being issued.
No tickets will be issued until the group is confirmed, unless the participants agree to pay the supplement in case the minimum group isn’t form.
We recommend you, as far as possible, to buy your flights in advance to get better schedules and prices.
The 50€ from the booking will be fully refundable during the 15 days of the reservation if you decide not to travel.
The 50% paid at the group confirmation will not be refundable one month prior to departure. At this time you’ll have to make the final payment.
If at this point you decided not to travel, you could still get back 50% if you gave your place to someone who is not already enrolled in the travel group.
In case you can not give your place, we will have to see in each case, with our suppliers in the destination, the services that can be canceled without expenses.
Any cancellation after paying the 50% deposit will have 100€ expenses in concept of bank and management fees.
Air ticket cancellation will always depend on the airline terms and conditions and not from TravelToDance.
